GREENSBORO AMELIE RIVES MAROHN PASSED AWAY peacefully on June 28, 2015 at home after a long illness. Amelie, one of nine children, was born on January 27, 1926 to the late Arthur Reid and Margaret Florence Rives in Sanford, N.C. She is survived by her four children; two daughters Gale Webb (husband Jarrett) and Inga Marohn and two sons Eric Marohn (wife Tammi) and Lars Marohn (wife Ruth); three beautiful granddaughters, Emily, Erin and Amelie; two sisters Julia Mann of Sanford, N.C. and Sarah Lynn Spencer of Boone, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.Amelie attended two years at Greensboro College and then took a job with the State Department as they were trying to rebuild Germany after WWII. She spent the next seven years exploring Germany and parts of Europe. Once back in the US, she focused her time and attention on raising a family and supporting her Lutheran church. Always an advocate for the less fortunate, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, discussing politics and was a voracious reader. Fearless by nature, Amelie was known to speak her mind. She adored animals, especially dogs. Amelie valued honesty, loyalty and a good sense of humor. She had many friends, some from all over the world, who loved her well and will miss her.The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice and the dedicated caregivers who made her last months and days so much more peaceful. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, July 2, 2015 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Greensboro, N.C. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Amelie's memory may be made to your local Urban Ministry.
