Bettye Ann Markette Milligan

November 21, 1941 - September 21, 2025

Bettye Ann Markette Milligan died peacefully in Fort Myers, Fla., on September 21, 2025. Born to Benjamin and Inez Markette on November 21, 1941, in Macon, Ga., she was a longtime resident of Greensboro, N.C. A devoted member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Greensboro DAR chapter, Bettye enjoyed genealogy and playing cards with friends.

Bettye is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul Bruce Milligan; son, Thomas (YuanYuan) Milligan of Rockville, Md.; daughter, Mary Bonney (David) Farren of Fort Myers, Fla.; as well as her twin, Bonney Poremski of Buffalo, N.Y. and sister, Becky Cameron of New Iberia, La. She was a proud grandmother to Jake, Brodie, Katherine, and William.

Bettye received a bachelor's from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master's in education from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She taught with the Rockingham County School District for 20 years.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 11th, 2025, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro, NC 27455.

Bettye was a close, dear friend of my mother's. Mom looked forward to their weekly get togethers to play bridge and discuss current events. Bettye was a kind and thoughtful lady and we will miss her! Treasure the memories!
