I met Mr.Melvin and his beautiful wife while working at Osteria in Greensboro. He was smart, funny and quick. It's his humor that I will cherish most. It's truly heartbreaking to hear about his passing. Much love to his family.

This is incredibly sad news. I send my sincere condolences to Susan, their family and friends.
I consider Jim a dear friend that I've known almost all of my 75 years of life. We got to know each other at West Market Street United Methodist Church and he was an inspiration to me when I was a young Junior Achiever in the mid and like 60s. The Chamber of Commerce polled Junior Achievers in 1967 or 68 asking who would make a great mayor of Greensboro. My response was Jim Melvin. Several years later he ran and was elected! I consider him one of the best mayors to serve Greensboro and indeed, he was an tireless volunteer, an icon of the sports community in Greensboro, a champion of the Greensboro Coliseum's growth, expansions and development and always an enthusiastic supporter of the City of Greensboro.
It is hard to imagine Greensboro without his inspired, steady leadership, calm demeanor and warm smile. God Speed, Jim.
