John Jasper Pointer III John Jasper Pointer, III known as "Little John" was born on January 30, 1978, in Danville, Virginia, to John Jasper Pointer Jr. and Fairy Coleman Pointer of Alton, Virginia. He departed his earthly life on April 10, 2014. At an early age, John was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Alton, Virginia, where he remained a faithful member until his death. As a youth, John attended Sunday school faithfully, joined the Usher Ministry, and continued to serve as an Usher until his God called his angel home. John graduated from Halifax County Senior High School in 1996. In high school, John was a member of the marching band, played football and ran track. In his junior year of high school, John was recognized as the most outstanding sprinter. He furthered his education at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration in 2000. While attending Virginia State University, John worked fulltime as a supervisor at the United State Parcel Services in Richmond, Virginia and during the summer he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Having a passion for life on the farm and to be in the country near his family, John returned to Alton, Virginia in April 2001 obtaining employment at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Danville, Virginia, as an Area Manager. John held several positions, his last position was a 1052 and CI Coordinator in the MRT Tire Room, then he was surplus to the Curring Department. John had a personal ministry of love, gratitude, and service. He lived his values and truly enjoyed the fellowship and sharing that came with the activities that he did. His memory will be cherished by the way he lived his life. John had a love for spending time with his family. During the holidays, John had a tradition of always bringing his family for dinner on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. John also enjoyed fellowshipping with his in- laws, Larry and Mary Medley during the holidays. He had a passion for being outdoors, farming, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his sons. John loved to hunt deer especially "running and dropping the dogs". John enjoyed being a blessing to others. He would "process the deer" and share with family and friends. He was the President of The Big Dog Hunting Club of Ringgold, Virginia. John was preceded by his paternal grandparents, the late John J. Pointer Sr. and Gladys Brandon Pointer; his maternal grandparents, the late Esless Scott Coleman and Pattie Fergus Coleman; and one uncle, Joseph Fergus. He leaves a legacy of love to his wife of twelve years, Teu Pointer; his two sons, John Thomas and Jaylen Jasper of Alton, Virginia; his parents, John J. Pointer Jr. and Fairy Coleman Pointer of Alton, Virginia; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Mary Medley of Alton, Virginia; one brother, Esless Scott Pointer Sr. of Danville, Virginia; and two sisters-in-law, Shalunda Pointer and Nyeshia Medley-Freeze, both of Danville, Virginia; two nephews, Esless Scott Pointer Jr. and Santana Freeze, both of Danville, Virginia; one niece, Lalia Freeze of Danville, Virginia; two devoted God brothers, Robert LaJuan Coleman of Occoquan, Virginia, and Reginald Hobbs of Sandy Hook, Virginia; seven aunts, Deborah Logan (Irby) of Atlanta, Georgia, Karetha (Rev. Medley) of Alton, Virginia, Audrey Pointer of Durham, North Carolina, Evelyn Pointer of Atlanta, Georgia, Alieen Martin (Bernard) of Axton, Virginia, Minister Florence Jeffreys (Min. Jeffreys) of Alton, Virginia, Brenda Goode (Kerry) of Sutherlin, Virginia; twelve uncles, Mason Coleman of Alton, Virginia, Allen Coleman (Mary), of Alton, Virginia, Linwood Coleman (Odessa), of Alton, Virginia, Roland Coleman (Jean) of Alton, Virginia, Phillip Coleman (Edith) of Alton, Virginia, Robert Coleman (Margie) of Alton, Virginia, Cecil Coleman (Bonnie) of Round Hill, Virginia, James Coleman, of Alton, Virginia, Carl Pointer Sr. (Beryl) of Alton, Virginia, Min. Antonio Pointer (Angela) of Atlanta, Georgia, David Pointer of Alton, Virginia, Stacy Pointer (Brenda) of Alton, Virginia. Survivors also include two nephews, Esless Scott Pointer Jr. and Santana Freeze of Danville, Virginia; one niece, Lylia Freeze of Danville, Virginia; many other cousins, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider God's Store House, The Good Samaritan or a Scholarship fund of your choice. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Cherry Stone Missionary Baptist Center at 5551 Tom Fork Road, Ringgold, Virginia. Interment will be held at the Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Alton, Virginia.
