JUNE 30, 1932 AUGUST 19, 2015 GREENSBORO A MASS of Christian Burial for John P. Watterson, 83, resident of Greensboro, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 2203 West Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24th, at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel at 5926 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro. There will be a prayer service to begin the visitation. Mr. Watterson passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 19th.John "Jack" P. Watterson was born on June 30, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York. He was united in marriage to the late Janice C. Watterson on April 23, 1960 in Babylon, New York. Jack was a Korean War veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Following Korea, Jack joined the Nassau County, New York, Police Department, from which he retired. Jack was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro. His abiding faith in God served as a strong example for his children. Jack was an avid reader and enjoyed working outdoors, mechanics, furniture restoration, cooking and listening to big band music. He is best remembered for being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. John is survived by his loving children, John P. Watterson, II, Peter J. Watterson, Anne Watterson Grier (son-in-law, David D. Grier), James V. Watterson and granddaughter, Katherine A. Watterson.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 2203 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27403.
