MICHAEL CONWELL Obituary
MICHAEL JAMES CONWELL GREENSBORO Michael James Conwell, 67, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 following a motorcycle accident. Michael was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and came to NC in 1968 to attend graduate school at UNC in microbiology. A graduate of Duke University's Physician Assistant Program, he was the first Physician Assistant in Greensboro, working for Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons for 10 years. He was an officer in the Greensboro Police Department for 22 years serving in the Financial Crimes and Homicide Squads. After retirement from the Police Department, he served as a Medical Examiner for Guilford and Rockingham Counties. He is survived by his wife, Rita Shugart, of the home, and his children Jennifer and Steven Connolly, Kelly Conwell, and Brian and Angel Conwell, and his seven grandchildren Katie, Daniel, June, Olivia, Juno, Eden, and Zelda all of Rhode Island. The family will see friends at 4405 Old Well Place, Greensboro on Saturday October 26 from 2-5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Piedmont Land Conservancy, the Guilford County Animal Shelter, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
