GREENSBORO On January 3, 2017, our Lord called his beloved son, Tamrat Mereba, home. His transition was peaceful as he was guided to paradise. Tamrat was born to Mereba Yadesa and Yergedu Desta in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on March 22, 1952. Tamrat spent the early years of his life in his native country before moving to America to continue his education. He eventually earned a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in mass communications. Throughout his life, he has taught thousands of young adults at various colleges and universities across America. At the time of his passing, he was an admired professor at North Carolina A&T State University. He was well-known for pushing his students to aim for greatness and also for his interesting sense of humor. Loved ones waiting to welcome him into eternity include his father, Mereba Yadesa, his mother, Yergedu Desta, and his sister, Asegedech Mereba. Tamrat was loved by many. He will always remain in the hearts of the ones he left behind: his wife, Seble Legese; his sons, Matthew Mereba and Marlon Mereba; his daughters, Marian Mereba and Faben Mereba; his sister, Fantaye Mereba; his brothers, Befekadu Tillahun and Endeshaw Bekele; and the many other loved ones and family members from his native Ethiopia. May God bless him as he rests in eternal peace. Funeral service will be held today, January 6, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, 1810 Brockett Ave., High Point, NC. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park, 1550 NC 62 W., High Point, NC. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
