George Giannopoulos Obituary
Seneca
George N. Giannopoulos, 77, of Seneca, died in his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, April 6, 2017.
Born in Isohoria Evrytanias, Greece, he was the son of the late Nickos and Vasiliki Giannopoulos.
George came to the United States in 1968. Together with his brother-in-law, Andrew Demos, he owned the legendary "Time Drive In" restaurant in Seneca for 30 years. He was a dedicated member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and of "Velouchi" Association. For his many years of loving service, he received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Velouchi Association. George was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Giannopoulos of Seneca; his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Katerina Giannopoulos of Greenville; his beloved granddaughters, Liana and Georgia Giannopoulos of Greenville; his sisters, Dina Hantzis of Patra, Greece and Rina Giannopoulos of Patra, Greece; his brothers-in-law, Andrew Demos (Soula) of Seneca, Nick Demos (Despina) of Greenville, Pete Dimopoulos (Faye) of Easley; his sisters-in-law, Katerini Dimopoulos of Seneca and Bessie Fallis (Bill) of Winston Salem, NC and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces on both sides of the Atlantic.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the Trisagion Service at 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service, officiated by Father Tom Pistolis, will be held Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral with interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pall bearers will be Dean Demos, Dino Demos, Vasillee Dimopoulos, John Demos, Leon Kythas, and Dennis Fallis.
Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 406 N. Academy Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.

To Pouline and the family of George I am greatly sorry for loss. I only got to spend a little time with him at the end but I truly treasured that time. He will always be in my memory. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and your tremendous loss.

Sending prayers to family and friends of George. We remember him well. We moved to Oconee County S.C. 40 years ago and Time Drive-in was our favorite place to eat. Big George and Andrew had a great place there which continues today by Tommy and George. Great food and friendly service. We talked about our favorite place when we lived in Greenville was the Rainbow Drive-In which Andrew worked at when he was a teenager. It just felt like we always knew them.
