Jimmy Sharpton Obituary
Laurens
Jimmy Claude Sharpton, Sr., 81, of 308 Woodbluff Rd. and husband of Sue Cullum Sharpton, passed away, Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Angel Medical Center in Franklin, NC.
Born in Hickory, NC, he was the son of the late Walter Pressley and Sara "Cleo" Davis Sharpton. A U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, Mr. Sharpton was the owner of Gulf Oil Co. in Laurens. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. A Mason with Palmetto Lodge #19, and the Hejaz Shrine, he was a long time coach with the Dixie Little League Baseball.
In Addition to his wife, he is survived by: his sons, Jimmy Sharpton, Jr. and wife, Linda, and Will Sharpton and wife Wayne; and his grandchildren, Jonathan and Daniel Sharpton, and Clint Keels. Mr. Sharpton was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Robert Pressley Sharpton.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 6, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Alice MacKeil and Rev. Allan Burden. A private committal will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 244 West Main St. Laurens, SC 29360 or to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
