Virginia McGowan Obituary

Entered into eternal rest on June 23, 2004, Virginia Mims McGowan, widow of Joseph Wilson McGowan Jr. Residence, Charleston, S.C. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

Virginia was born in Jedburg, S.C., on Oct. 29, 1920, the daughter of James A. Mims and Lila Brewerton Mims. She was a retired administrative assistant with St. Andrews High School and was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Joseph W. McGowan III, of Laurens; her daughter, Pamela M. Miller, and her husband, William T. Miller Jr., of Loganville, Ga.; two brothers, James A. Mims Jr., of Charleston, and William Josiah Mims, of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Catherine Winona Mims Knight, of Charleston; five grandchildren, William T. Miller III, Robert Joseph Miller, David Brian Miller, Joseph W. McGowan IV and Marshall West McGowan; and four great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred M. Chasteen; and a brother, David Timothy Mims.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church, 1285 Ashley Hall Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
