Anthony Recchia Obituary

ANTHONY CHARLES RECCHIA longtime resident of Greenwich, CT and Vero Beach, Florida, died at the age of 74 on Saturday, September 27 surrounded by his family in Vero Beach. He was born October 5, 1933 to the late Catherine and Peter Recchia of Bari, Italy. Anthony graduated from Rhodes Preparatory School in New York, NY, and served in the National Guard until 1951. He went on to serve the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War, stationed in Tachikawa, Japan as Staff Sergeant until 1955. He was awarded a Korean Service medal, United Nations Service medal, National Defense Service medal and Good Conduct medal. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University School of Business, and a Master of Business Administration from Pace University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He completed Strategic Planning and International Management studies at London and Stockholm Schools of Economics. He had a distinguished career in finance, ultimately serving as Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Vice President of Finance and Administration of Asea Inc. for 22 years, where he was instrumental in growing the company toward its merger into what is now ABB Asea Brown Boveri Inc. He retired in 1995. Following retirement, he co-authored "U.S. Business Practices," an executive management textbook published in Europe by the Swedish Government Trade Commission. Anthony served on numerous subsidiary and external boards of directors. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, cross-country skiing, sporting clays, golf and fishing with his grandchildren. He and his wife recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends in Greenwich. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, his two children, Catherine Layne and her husband Barry of Calabasas, CA and Anthony J. Recchia and his wife Paige of Greenwich,CT; five grandchildren: Sydney, Eli, Charlie, Miles and Wyatt, and two brothers, Victor Recchia and his wife Josephine of Branford, CT, and Frank Recchia and his wife Annie of New Haven, CT. He was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Rechler and Palmina Fiore. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4. There will be a memorial gathering in Greenwich, CT in late October. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Anthony's memory to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Fordham College Jesuit Scholarship Fund,441 East Fordham Rd. Bldg.1, Bronx, NY 10458. Arrangements has been entrusted to Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, 916 17th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960
