James Lally Obituary
Lally, James Edward Jr. (90) passed on July 11, 2017 surrounded by loving family. James was born in Port Chester, NY January 12, 1927 to the late James Edward Lally Sr. and Grace Tripp Lally. James was preceded by his loving wife of 54 years Alma Manka Lally and four sisters, Edith Cypher, Gertrude Carpenter, Marion Low and Barbara Tiplady. James was a loved and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sons Michael (wife Jackee) and Kevin of Greenwich and daughter Laura of Fairfield; three granddaughters, Allison Jordan (husband Caleb) of Canton, GA, Shannon Lally (partner Joseph Cesare) of Ashville, NC and Erin Lally (partner Jacob vanVeen) of Stamford, CT and four step-grandchildren, Mitchel, Wesley, Kyle, and Laine Blummer. James especially loved and enjoyed every moment with his three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Carter Jordan and Ava vanVeen.
James was a retired manager of Roberts Furniture, 75 Greenwich Avenue. He was also a WWII veteran and one of the founding members of the Byram Veterans Association. James was a third degree life member of the Greenwich Knights of Columbus Council #39. James, for many years, volunteered his time on the board of directors and was Quartermaster with The Stateliners Drum & Bugle Corp. In his younger years, James pitched softball for the Byram Sokol Club in the fast pitch league. James was an avid golfer and bowler and all around sports enthusiast. Also, he was a lifelong New York Mets and Giants fan. Visitation will be on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at The Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3, Greenwich, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry Street, Greenwich, CT, at 10 a.m., Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY. The world has lost another of those men who through just being around him made you want to stand a bit straighter and try a bit harder so you looked like you might measure up in his eyes. I worked with Jim at Roberts back in 1980 when I was a 15 kid working as a delivery helper. Throughout my entire life we would run into each other when our paths crossed. He would always take a minute and catch up and say how nice it was to see me and keep plugging along. There was a very dark period in my life from 1981 to 1987. He saw after that and reminded me that that period was not all of my life nor who he knew me to be. Move on he said . It will become he past. I and everyone else who knew him just lost a bit of sunshine to our day.his family has lost more then I can imagine ,yet I think he would want to remember the love he has for them forever. He will always watch over you all
