John Allen Obituary

John Theodore Allen
Dec. 15, 1943 - Dec. 16, 2017
Ted passed away on December 16, 2017, surrounded by his loving family -- Nancy (Nickerson), his beloved wife of 49 years; his son Jake and his wife Jenny and his daughter Ginny (Rosow) and her husband David. He is the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Grace, Cambell and Hadley Rosow and Lindsay, Kyle, Meghan and Natalie Allen. Born December 15, 1943, in Greenwich, CT to the late Beatrice and Arthur Allen, Ted grew up in Greenwich and attended Greenwich Public Schools with his two brothers, Stuart Allen (Vero Beach, FL) and Tucker Allen (Stuart, FL). After graduating from Greenwich High School in 1961, he attended the University of Bridgeport, where he received a BS degree in Accounting in 1966. Ted was a licensed CPA in Connecticut, starting his career with his father's company, Arthur Allen & Co., eventually buying and operating it himself, and growing it until it merged to become Christensen Defruscio & Allen Co. Ted proudly served in the United States Army Reserve from 1967-1973. He also gave back to his beloved Old Greenwich community by serving on the Board of the Perrot Library and as Treasurer of the Lions Club of Greenwich. An avid golfer, Ted never once came close to shooting his age. For sure he loved the game and valued the friendships he made on the course. He was a member of the Griff and Innis Arden Golf Club, where he served on the Board of Governors. He will be remembered fondly as a gentleman who cared deeply for his family, friends, client's, associates and the game of golf. A memorial service will be held on December 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department http://www.sbvfd.com/support/index.cfm.

Dear Nancy and all the Allens,
Teddy was a good guy, and I think that's the best thing that can ever be said about a person! He was always cheerful and ready with a joke. I hope that the love of family and friends carry you through this sad time.

Nancy and family-He was truly a gentleman who fought a good fight. He will truly be missed by all; but, live on in our hearts. Psalm 23:5 "You prepare a banquet for me...you welcome me as an honored guest..and your house will be my home as long as I live." May God bless you knowing he is safe in Gods' loving care.

dear nancy and children

I had the pleasure to caddy for teddy, nancy, and mr. nickerson many times and in several member/guest tournaments; warm and genuine people who were a real pleasure to be with; teddy was a unique golfer in the sense I never saw him get his feathers up on the course; a very reserved man with a great dry sense of humor--but you had to listen for it; I once complemented him on his lovely young family and he said 'LEON, I LIVE IN MARITAL BLISS' with that endearing smile; hard to image this was 40 plus years ago.

I am lucky to have known Teddy for almost 50 years and to be considered part of the Nickerson/Allen family. Teddy was a great neighbor, a financial advisor, a fabulous grill master, a wonderful golfer, a smart 31 player and always a generous and loyal friend. Teddy loved Nancy so much, he was so proud of Jake and Ginny, and cherished the grandchildren. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
