David Younger Obituary

David Mitchell "Mitch" Younger passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7th after a battle with cancer. He was 63 years old. David was born October 26, 1960 in San Pedro, CA. He moved to Gridley with his parents Kay and Ken Ball at the age of 15 and attended Gridley High School where he proved his athletic prowess on both the basketball court and baseball field. At 6'2" and powerfully built, he was eyed by the football coach as a potential player. However, his first love was basketball, and he was a standout player. He graduated from Gridley High in 1979 and went to work for Holiday Market for several years, before embarking on a career as a mechanic at Sunsweet in Yuba City, where he worked until his retirement. A natural athlete, his love of sports continued throughout his life. He stayed active playing City League softball, even being brought on as a "ringer" one season for the fire department team because they needed a heavy hitter. Mitch was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved being on the river, whether it was fishing for striped bass with his dad or going out to listen to live music at Swabbie's. Once retired, he was looking forward to spending time with family, enjoying the grandkids, and getting in some good fishing. Tragically, he was taken from us before he could enjoy his retirement. David was preceded in death by his wife Sue, and his nephew Mathew. He is survived by his mother and father Kay and Ken Ball, his sons Justin (Melissa) and Ty (Lacey), stepson Justin Wilde, brother Mark, sister Michelle (Randy) O'Rear, granddaughters Leila and Avery, nephew Michael, nieces Ashley Brown and Haven O'Rear, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family will hold a small, private service for close family in his honor.
