Nancy Sheffield Baxter, 81, of Batesville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 7, 2025.
She was born on July 29th, 1944 in Batesville to Catherine Pence and Dale Sheffield, and later was officially adopted by her grandparents, Harvey and Vada Sheffield.
She was a 1962 graduate of Batesville High School and earned her Associates Degree in Business from Arkansas State College (University) in 1964. She worked a number of years in business at White Rodgers, Arkansas College (Lyon), Lennox Quality Heat and Air, and Pro-Dentec.
Nancy was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was actively involved in all of her grandchildren's activities. She loved traveling, especially to California and Oklahoma, research and genealogy, and creating photo albums for her friends and family. Nancy was known for always decorating and celebrating holidays and birthdays in order to make her loved ones feel extra special, and was an avid fan of Elvis and Alan Jackson.
Survivors include her son Steve Baxter and wife Melissa of Batesville, her grandchildren, Paige Bradley, Beau Baxter, Blaine Baxter, and Bella Baxter, all of Batesville. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends, and her faithful companions, Ginger, Sugar, and Buddy.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Crystal Baxter Bradley; parents and grandparents; one sister, Bernice Woods (Ken); two brothers, R.L. Sheffield (Dot), and H.T. Sheffield (Geneva).
Honorary pallbearers: Becky Wood, Linda Wood, Kenneth Rorie, Ladene Bray, Jason Clark, Zach Witt, Richard Fraiser, Mike Foster, Calvin Fairchild, Mike Foree, Staci Albert, Joshua Janiak, and the Batesville Class of 1962.
The Baxter family wants to recognize and give special thanks to her cousin, Connie Painter and husband Richard, Ted and Kathy Hyslip, Keith Davis, Louann Gregory, Troy and Mary Looney, Kim and Melanie Looney and family, Johnnie Moore and family, Joeann Baxter and family, Eddie Witt and family, WRMC, and Gentiva Hospice Care.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home. A private burial of cremains will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025 at the funeral home prior to service.
