ROBERT KAY Obituary

ROBERT KAY

Robert "Bob" Kay succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease on April 8, 2015. He was only 76 years old. He was born in Colusa, CA, in 1939 and spent his idyllic childhood wandering the Sutter Buttes near the small town of Meridian, CA. Bob was an Eagle Scout, an avid hunter and a fisherman. Bob was also a high school athlete and a decent water-skier. Bob went to college at the University of California, Davis, where he met his wife, Carol. Bob began his love of flying while a member of the ROTC at UC Davis. After graduating from college, he joined the U.S. Army and flew several types of fixed wing and rotary aircraft. Bob served three tours in Vietnam, earning numerous awards including a Purple Heart. He retired from the Army in 1984 as a Major, having served our country for 22 years.

Bob started his second career in Hawaii working for the Navy Contract Administration at Pearl Harbor. Eighteen years later, Bob retired again. He and his wife Carol moved to Green Valley in 2001 to begin their retired life. Bob continued his active lifestyle by contributing his time to the White Elephant, VFW, Rotary and Rose Society. For many years Bob and Carol enjoyed traveling in their RV and visiting new places.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carol, of 52 years; their son, Steven Kay (wife Nicole Kay); their daughter Treena Kay (significant other Juan Martinez); his sister Patsy Thompson (husband Richard Thompson) and his granddaughters, Jacqueline and Evelynne Kay. Bob is also survived by his beloved black Labrador, Ginger. Ginger will miss their early walks every day.

A Military Service will be conducted at Fort Huachuca, AZ, on April 17, 2015 at 2 pm. Friends and family are welcome.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Kay's residence in Green Valley on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 5 pm. Smiles and fond memories are welcome.
