I didn't know Darrell at all, and I only know his mom a little. She was in one of my classes last quarter and at the end we had to write an essay about our lives. It was then that I learned about her children and how much she loved them. I am sorry Diana for your loss. When I see you at school, I'm gonna give you a big hug! Your entire family is in my prayers!

I was so sad to hear about Darrell. My husband is a soldier with the 377th mp company. He and Darrell were in the same team and they were very close to one another. Not a day has went by that I haven't thought of him, your family and the poor soldiers that are missing him as they are deployed to Afghanistan. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Me and Darrell used to be good friends but lost touch when he joined the army. But I know from experiance he was an amazing person. He could make anyone smile, and was so positive. I see his face constantly and it hurts, but i know hes in a better place watching out for the rest of us down here. I love you Darrell.

I will never forget the day Darrell came into the junior high to show me how he looked and what he had done at the end of his training. He was so handsome and his smile so proud. My heart sunk when I heard of his death at lunch today. I had Darrell in 6th grade as his teacher and then saw him off and on over the years. He and his brother, Dylan, both had a place in my heart. They are good boys with big hearts if you got to know them. May God hold all of you in his arms. I will remember you a strong and proud soldier!

To Darrell's parents:
My son, also 21 years old, was in a serious car accident in the area early this past Friday evening as well. His car was totaled and he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital Emergency. I did not know the extent of his injuries until I arrived at the hospital. Right after I got the phone call at home about the accident and that I needed to go to the hospital I heard on the radio or tv that a 21 year old had died in an accident in the area but they were not releasing his name pending notification of relatives. Needless to say I was in agony on my way to the hospital not knowing if it was my 21 year old. I almost broke down while driving to the hospital. I got to the hospital expecting the worse news of my life but instead found out my son was alive and doing well. It wasn't even 2 minutes after I realized my son was ok and had survived his accident and that I had been spared the the grief and suffering that I was not at all ready to face that I realized another family would be facing it in my place. My heart goes out to you because I experienced only a small glimpse of how you must have felt friday evening. My son, also a great young man like yours, knows what happened to your son and I think he will be an even better man and appreciate life more because he knows it could have just as easily been him taken from us last friday instead of your son.
I am so very sorry for your loss.

Darrell, you were such a great friend, and a great role model for me. The seven years i knew you were amazing..I miss the times when you would come over to my house and wrestle with me and my sister, and to the times where we would sit in my truck and talk until 3 a.m. to think, we were going to race together at the track this summer when you got home. Darrell, you were an amazing friend, and will forever be in my heart and in my prayers. Save us all a seat, and now you can race with God. I love ya buddy.

To the Jones Family. Our son Kyle O'Neil is in the 377th MP Unit with Darrell. He has been at our home a couple of times to visit Kyle and they were very close in New Mexico during training. I was very impressed with Darrell. When he came to visit he yelled "Hi Mom to me as all of the Army Guys have done who come to visit" He touched my heart. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

As I reflect back on my memories of Darrell I can proudly say that I saw a young man grow and mature into an outstanding person that was by all definition a role model for others to follow. He had qualities far beyond his years that only a few ever achieve.
I believe in my heart that when he was greeted into heaven that our ALL MIGHTY GOD spoke these words to him. " Welcome Darrell, My fine and Faithful Servent"
My God Bless and comfort the hearts of ALL our Family and Friends.
Love,
