Cubby, Im Kim (McManus) Sackmann. I was Arthur Kochs Technician at Jordan Hall, IU B. I just came across a research ref of Garys and looked him up only to find this sad news. I was battling cancer at the same time Gary died. Im OK now but was all focused on just that for several years getting better. I was actually hoping to reconnect with you guys for our retirement years and I feel such a sense of loss. We have all been robbed of a very dear, sweet, intelligent man. I feel for you and your family. Im on FB and requested to join your private group. Much love, Kim

I was very sad to learn of Gary's passing. We connected multiple times over the past years during my career at P&G, and I've hired several of his former students - who have always spoken very fondly of him and his dedication to his students. He did great work and left a great legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with him and the family.

I mainly remember him from childhood years--with all the Janssen family reunions.I am Linda, Ed & Bernie Janssen's daughter. I left Minneota in 1966 and for the most part lived in other states. I did have the pleasure of seeing & visiting with him briefly when we were both in Minneota, Mn a few years ago.

Dear Cubby, Leah, Ezra, I am so missing my friend, cousin since I heard of him passing. I remember riding my bike to their farm when I was young and hanging out with Gary and Roger. I haven't had much contact with him over the years, but always special when I did see him. Last time was aunt Terry's funeral. He rode with us to the cemetery and we listened to the blues. I will miss him just knowing I won't see him again what a heart he had. I can't imagine the heartache you are feeling! Take care !

Gary touched my life in an indelible way and I'm forever blessed for it. I will never forget the man who on my first day in the department took the time to help a stranger shop for basic household necessities. He was such a support and encouragement through my grad school days and the only person who insisted that time taken to explore other aspects of life were as important as science and research.

Gary...you were kind and gentle and so generous with your self and I'm so thankful that I got to know you! You will be sorely missed but never forgotten!

I was Gary's first student to complete a Ph.D. and could not have done so without him. I remember him as patient, humorous, and helpful. He was an excellent teacher, and he was exactly the advisor and mentor I needed. To his family, please accept my condolences. He was a good human being who will be sadly missed.

Gary was one of the kindest and gentlest people I've ever encountered at Miami, or over old LPs at the Lane Library book sale. I will so miss seeing him biking around Oxford, wind blowing in his beard. The world is better for having had Gary in it, but I'm so sad to imagine it without him.

We were sad to hear of Gary's passing. His enthusiastic love for music always made his visits fun & it was always a pleasure to see him & his smile walk through the door. What made him so extraordinary was his interest in why YOU liked the music you did and not just him telling what HE liked. It always made for a great conversation. We will certainly miss him at the shop.

So Sorry to hear the sad news about Gary. I cleaned his lab in Pearson Hall for several years. He treated me like a colleague rather than a custodian. Thank you Gary for actually getting to know me. Rest In Peace, my friend.

November 2, 2015

Dear Gary - we were first cousins, but as I was a good 10 years older than you, we never got to know each other well. My dad, Leo Janssen, was a brother to your father, John.

You excelled in accomplishments during your life and I know your dad is greeting you with a very proud smile on his face.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families. May knowing you're in the hearts and thoughts of others help you and yours
through this time of sorrow.

Dear Kob, Leah and Ezra,I can imagine your deep pain and I am sharing it.
I have so nice memories of our drinking evenings in your house.
