Jack Scurlock Obituary


News Death Notice

SCURLOCK, Jack Scott age 71, of Franklin, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. He was born May 30, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, in the Special Forces - Green Beret. He was employed at Sandia National Laboratory, in New Mexico, contributing to Atomic Bomb Nuclear Research and witnessed Atomic Bomb test explosions. He was then employed for 40 years in research, and became a Senior Project Engineer at AK Steel, retiring in 2006. Jack then started Scurlock Engineering Consulting and worked through Hanco, Inc. as an AK consultant for four years. He was an active member of Spring Hill Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon, Director of the Seniors Group and a member of the Outreach Committee. He enjoyed boating, both water and snow skiing, and cycling. Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd Benson and Mildred Manilla (Jeremiah) Scurlock; and brother, Robert Scurlock. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Susan Scurlock; two children, Jeffrey Scurlock and wife Shannon and Melissa Scurlock Weatherly and husband Jeff; two step children, Chris Brooks and wife Natalie and Tracy Brooks; four grandchildren, Devin Weatherly, Samantha Weatherly, Isabella Scurlock and Julia Scurlock; one step-granddaughter, Jackie Thomas; one sister, Jean Uhrig and husband Chuck; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Spring Hill Church of Christ, 2021 Brell Drive, Middletown, Ohio 45042. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with Bob Stacy, Senior Minister, officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown, Ohio, with military services by the Franklin V.F.W. Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Hill Church of Christ, 2021 Brell Dr., Middletown, Ohio 45042 or to Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Drive, Franklin, Ohio 45005. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.

Susan and Family, we are saddened to hear of Jack's passing. Even though we have only been members of Springhill for a short time Jack made us feel at home at the church from the very first Sunday. We will miss him.

Susan and Family,
