Dr. Robert G ENGLEFIELD

1934 - 2018

ENGLEFIELD, Dr. Robert G. 83, of Springfield, passed away on Monday afternoon, May 21, 2018. He was born in Springfield on July 19, 1934, the son of the late Rupert and Carolyn (Garver) Englefield. Bob was a 1952 graduate of Springfield High School and was granted a football scholarship to Auburn University. Following his first year at Auburn, he joined the U.S. Army and served for two years. Following his service, he entered The Ohio State University and earned his Doctorate of Optometry in 1961. Bob opened his practice in Yellow Springs, serving his patients for 50 years, retiring in 2011. Not being able to stay retired, he practiced at Wal Mart, Urbana until 2014. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church and a former member of the Polo Club, Yellow Springs Lions Club and the University Club. Bob was an avid golfer and loved his fishing trips to Canada. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ruth (Spragg) Englefield; three children, Karen Sue Stucker (Scott Bridges) of Springfield, Robert G. Englefield Jr. (Melissa) of Enon and Ellen Weidauer of Springfield; step-sons, Mark Sallee and Rob Sallee (Kathryn); two brothers, Fredrick William Englefield III (Janet) of Granville, Ohio and Richard H. Englefield (Pat) of Trenton, Florida; grandchildren, Kara Mae Borovich (Jon), Zachary Englefield, Jenness Costello (Stephen), Jennifer Weidauer, Harold Chatfield Reynolds VI, Chelsea Lee Reynolds, and Kameron Sallee; and great grandchildren, Boston, Caden, Bennett, Will, and Vivalynn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Englefield. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME as well as one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Lutheran Church with Pastor Ali Mazzei officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
