Michael Lance Bodnar

Michael Lance Bodnar, of Wilmington NC, passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2026 at the age of 81. The son of Michael and Florence Bodnar was born on January 1, 1945 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia; sons Lance Michael (Melissa) and grandchildren Reed and Julianna from Carlsbad California, Gregory William Bodnar (Michelle) and grandchildren Will and Ella, from Newport North Carolina and sister, Andrea Bodnar from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Michael graduated from Auburn University in 1966. He was a member of the Auburn football team where he played in the Orange and Liberty Bowls. Mike and Patricia lived in Massillon Ohio (Perry /Twp) where they raised their children. Mike was active in the Perry Twp. Rotary and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Mike served on the Perry School Board and was influential in raising funds to light the Perry Panther Baseball Field.

Mike served as the Dean of Business at Stark State College, where he inspired countless students and colleagues with his wisdom and guidance. Mike retired from Stark State in 2007 and he and Patricia moved to Wilmington NC. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his many friends. He was especially proud of his two holes in one.

His memory will forever be cherished by the love of his life, Patricia Lee Bodnar, and their two outstanding sons, Lance (wife Melissa) and Gregory (wife Michelle). He was a proud grandfather to Ella, Will, Julianna, and Reed and enjoyed watching the grandchildren perform in all of their activities.

Mike was a member of Pine Valley Global Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
