Charles J. Gassen Sr., of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away at his home on Monday, March 27, 2023, at the age of 75. He was born on Oct. 12, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late Hollis C. Gassen Sr. and Josephine Hungate Gassen. Charles was retired from the U.S. Marine Corp, having served in Desert Storm.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles J. Gassen Jr. and wife Rachel, Michelle R. Gassen, and Strader M. Gassen; stepchildren, Brennan, Ayzia, and Zachare Carney all of Ponchatoula; mother-in-law, Pauline Schafer Corkern; grandchildren, Austin Gassen and Jennabeth Gassen; brother, Hollis C. Gassen Jr. and wife JoAnn of Kingwood, Texas; niece, Karen G. Wilson; ex-wife, Betty Gassen; and special friends, John Berg of Texas, Glen Kent of Clinton, Louisiana, Jim Doyle of Alabama, and Marvin Musgrove of Ruston, Louisiana.
In addition to his parents, Charles, was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne Corkern Gassen; infant daughter, Baby Gassen; father-in-law, Harold Corkern; and a great friend, Dave "Rat" Ratcliff.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Thursday, March 30 from 9-11 a.m.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Walter "Buster" Parker Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow at Wetmore Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
