Glenn Alves Obituary
May 17, 1952-January 5, 2023
Our beloved Glenn David Alves was suddenly and unexpectedly called to his heavenly home on January 5, 2023 in Fresno, California at the age of 70. He will be greatly missed by all who had the special privilege of knowing him.
Glenn's main priority was always his family. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. He found his greatest joy in sharing life's adventures and events with his daughters, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. His compassion and selflessness will always live in them, those who loved him the most.
Glenn was a great coach to many, a farmer, a truck driver, a school bus driver, and a school bus mechanic. He was a compassionate man who befriended everyone. He never treated anyone like a stranger. He had an amazing gift of being able to talk to anyone and bring a smile to their face. Glenn's specialty was his Portuguese good-byes because they could last up to one hour.
Glenn loved taking trips with his family to just about anywhere they asked him to go. He was especially fond of the family trips to Pismo Beach where many memories were made with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter.
Glenn was a proud member of the Portuguese Community in Selma. He spent countless hours carrying out various essential jobs within the Selma Portuguese Azorean Association Hall over the past 50+ years.
Glenn is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Kathy, his daughters, Traci Staal (Matt Staal), Kimberly Alves, and Heather Alves (Krispen Verners). Glenn is also survived by his grandchildren, Sydney Alves (Garrett Pendergast), Kaylynn Alves, Jordan Otani, and great granddaughter, Aubrey Alves-Pendergast.
There will be a rosary held at Thomas Marcom Funeral Home in Selma, California on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 6:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 11:00am. A reception will follow the mass at the Selma Portuguese Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for those that wish to donate to the Selma Portuguese Hall or sponsor a child to participate in a city sport in his honor.

I remember Glenn from all our school years. From kindergarten through graduation from high school, I sat between Glenn and Melvin Alves in every class we had together. He was always a gentleman, kind and sweet. We had lots of laughs in classes. May God hold you, Kathy and your family in His arms during this time of sorrow.

Glenn was such a great husband to my sister, father to his girls and grandpa to his grandkids. He was always willing to help anyone. Andy and I enjoyed the many RV trips we took with Glenn and Kathy over the years. We all will miss him so much. Until we meet again Glenn, fly high with the angels and keep everyone entertained with your unending conversations. We love you.
