SARA ESCOLA Obituary

SARA JANE ESCOLA

August 10, 1948 – October 6, 2024

Sara Jane Escola passed away peacefully Sunday, October 6, 2024 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer's disease. Sara was born August 10, 1948 in Hanford, CA to Arthur and Jane DeRaad. Upon graduation from Lemoore High School in 1966 she attended California State University, Chico where she earned her bachelor's degree and completed a California multi-subject teaching credential. While in Chico, Sara met Alan Escola and were married in January 1973. After living and teaching elementary school for a short time in Rocklyn, CA, Sara and Alan returned Lemoore in 1976. Sara continued her teaching career with Central Union Elementary School District as a Kindergarten teacher at RJ Neutra Elementary School. Sara's teaching career extended 38 years, retiring in 2008.

Sara genuinely enjoyed annual family vacations to the Beaver House in Aptos, CA as well as many adventures abroad, but nothing gave her as much joy as being at home spending hours in the swimming pool with the latest issue of People Magazine and large glass of iced tea. Sara was an amazing mother and wife, devoting countless hours to Alan and her three sons. She was always the "team mom" for her son's youth sports teams and willingly opened their home for end of school year and end of season parties. During the winter months, although a non-skier, Sara could be found at China Peak (formerly Sierra Summit) every weekend supporting her sons growing love of snow skiing. During the warmer months she could be found enjoying the breeze and cooler weather sailing on Huntington Lake.

Sara is survived by her husband Alan, son Jon and daughter-in-law Jen, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Andra, son Michael, brother Bill DeRaad (Judy), brother Robert DeRaad (Jennifer), grandchildren Lauren, Amelia, Taylor, Blake and Andrew, four nieces and nephews as well as many lifelong friends. Her parents Arthur and Jane predeceased her.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 AM on November 30th at the Kings Country Club 3529 12th Ave Hanford, CA 93230.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sara's memory can be made to either the Alzheimer's Associate (www.alz.org) or the Lemoore Senior Center 789 S Lemoore Ave Lemoore, CA 93245.

Alan and family we are so sorry about your loss. We were next door neighbors with both of us moving into new homes in Rocklin . We were 15 years into our marriage and you were newlyweds who we absolutely enjoyed as neighbors. Sara was such a sweet young school teacher and Alan was such a character. You both keep us laughing and we so hated to see move away to Hanford.

Allen and family, I'm so sorry about Sara. I will always remember living across the street from you guys and seeing her sweet smile when we chatted. Never could understand how she was always smiling when she had to deal with all that male testosterone in the house She was one amazing woman... sorry for your loss.
