Marjorie L. Harris, 89, of Quincy, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.
Marjorie was born October 24, 1935, in Kahoka, MO to Floyd and Ruth (Bash) Hunziker. She was married to George L. Harris on January 20, 1956, in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2023.
Survivors include her two children, Carolyn Barnes (Pat) of Palmyra, MO and Michael Harris (Nancy) of Pawnee, IL; nine grandchildren, Brandon Reese (Kim), Jordon Harris (Kristin), Sarah Davis (Jason), Jason Bockenfeld (Kailin), Stefanie Bockenfeld (Tristan), Garry Harris (Jonica), Adam Raymond, Kayla Raymond, and Chad Poe; fifteen great-grandchildren, Connor, Braxton, Brynley, Braylynn, Stevie, Carrie, Garrett, Evelyn, Brady, Chad Jr., Chase, Jacob, Lydia, Zakary, and Hannah; and one sister in-law, Marydot Hunziker .
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Garry Harris; two sisters, Mertice and Janice, and one brother, Melvin.
A graduate of Kahoka High School, Marjorie initially embraced the role of homemaker, nurturing her growing family with care and dedication. Her professional path later led her to Quincy Paperbox and Quincy Casket Company, where her work ethic and warm personality made her a valued team member.
Marjorie's interests were a reflection of her love for life's simple pleasures. Her gardens were a vibrant mix of flowers and vegetables, with her green thumb yielding bountiful harvests that she lovingly preserved through canning. Her strawberry jam was a family treasure, as were her Christmas cookies and peanut butter fudge, which became synonymous with holiday cheer.
Her creative spirit found expression in cross-stitching, crafting baby blankets and tooth fairy pillows that became cherished keepsakes for her grandchildren. Music was another joy, whether she was listening to Elvis or George Strait, playing the piano, or browsing the aisles at Spurriers Music Store. Her cats, especially her beloved Amos, were constant companions, adding to the warmth of her home.
Above all, Marjorie's greatest pleasure was her family. Each gathering, each shared meal, and each moment spent together was a celebration of the love that she fostered throughout her life. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, a commitment to family, and the countless memories that will continue to bring smiles to the faces of those she leaves behind.
