Abraham Gaier Obituary

GAIER, Abraham Abraham Gaier, 89, of Farmington and formerly of West Hartford, passed on peacefully to his eternal rest on Monday (July 2, 2007) while his family was at his side. He was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Florence (Pollack) Gaier. He and his late wife loved and cared for each other for 54 years. He was the son of the late Max and Bessie (Gelb) Gaier Bass. Born in Hartford he graduated from Weaver High School. He was a US Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific battles and then later in Belgium as a Staff Sergeant specializing as a camouflage engineer. After the war he worked tirelessly operating a business investigating accident and negligence cases for the insurance and legal industries. He was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue first in Hartford and then in its West Hartford location and enjoyed attending services. He was an active volunteer for a preschool reading program. He also loved to volunteer to deliver meals for the Meals on Wheels program. He is survived by his two daughters, Sari and her husband Douglas Shander of Massachusetts, Barbara Gaier of Westport and son, Mark Gaier and his wife Hope (Primack) of Burlington and a brother, Jack Bass of West Hartford. He also leaves four cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Arielle Shander and Stephanie and Courtney Gaier and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predecesed by two sisters, Anne Firestone and Sylvia Brugg and sister-in-law, Lynette Bass. A funeral will be graveside TODAY, Thursday July 5, at 10:30 a.m. with Rabbi Raphael Friedman and Cantor Sanford Cohn officiating at the Emanuel Cemetery in Wethersfield (corner of Jordan Lane and Berlin Tnpke). Following interment the family will receive friends at the home of Mark and Hope Gaier, 39 Duane Lane, Burlington, (for directions go to www.gaierphoto.com). In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society or the Emanuel Synagogue. Funeral arrangements provided by the Hebrew Funeral Association, Inc., 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.
