Albert KIMBALL Obituary

KIMBALL, Albert H. Albert H. Kimball, of Cedar Mountain Commons, Newington, CT passed away on February 20 at the age of 98. He was born in Scotland, CT on July 10, 1911 to the late Sadie and Everett Kimball. Siblings included Eva, Harold and Burton, all of whom are deceased. (Burton is survived by his wife Carol (Williams) of Mystic, CT.) Albert was married to the late Marjorie Sears of Willimantic, CT. They had two children - Barrie Kimball (deceased) and Janice Ironside, now of Glastonbury, CT. He graduated from Scotland Grammar School In 1925 (the only graduate in his class) and from Windham High School in 1929. Numerous types of employment were engaged in during the following "Depression" years until March of 1938 when he became a member of the Connecticut State Police Department and was assigned to the Stafford Springs Barracks for the next eight years. In 1946, following graduation from Northwestern University's Traffic Institute, he was assigned to the newly created S.P. Traffic Division at headquarters in Hartford. In 1952 he was chosen to travel to Bermuda to Introduce the Radar Speed Meter for use there in speed control. In 1954 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with assignments as Commanding Officer of Station "H" in Hartford until retirement in 1959. For the next seven years, he was employed by Adley Express of New Haven as a Safety Supervisor for seven New England and Montreal terminals until the Company was sold. He then joined the staff of the Motor Transport Association of CT, becoming Assistant General Manager and retiring after 16 years. The next nine years he was a courier for the Laboratory Division of the Smith-Kline Beecham Company, and retired once and for all in 1982. He leaves five grandchildren (Michele, Barrie J., Mark, Kristen and Kimberly), eight great grand-children (Jacob, Adam, Luke, Caleb, Nathaniel, Maren, Will and Zach), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was an active member of the Wethersfield United Methodist Church, CT State Police Association, Harvard Associates in Police Science, and Northwestern University Center for Public Safety. He was known to some as "Al," to others as "Albie," and to others as "Bop Bop," the latter given to him by his first grandchild. For several years his license plate bore that name! There will be no calling hours; burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements coordinated by Rose Hill Funeral Service. A Memorial Service will be held on March 27, 11 a.m. at the Wethersfield United Methodist Church, 150 Prospect Street, Wethersfield, CT. We are so happy to have known Bop. We always looked forward to his Connecticut history lessons. Most of all we loved him and his sweet, sweet spirit. He had a desire to know and care for the people he met. We are with you in your sadness and we rejoice with you that Bop is home with God in peace. Much Love, Andy, Erin, and Elsa.

It was a pleasure seeing Mr. Kimball enjoy his long retirement, as he leisurely spent time in his yard, front porch or sun room. He always had a wave and a smile for a passing cruiser. Truly, and sadly, the end of an era. Sincere condolences to all of you.

I have very fond memories of Mr. Kimball, he always had something nice to say and very interesting stories. He was such a gentleman. Having worked with his son Barrie for many years I remember that Barrie had to go to dinner at 5:30 because his Dad had dinner ready. They are now all together. It was a pleasure to have known them.
