NORDQUIST, Albert W. Albert Wilson Nordquist, 90, died Friday (November 11, 2005). He was born Friday September 13, 1915 in Scranton, PA, the son of Leo C. Nordquist and Laura Weiss JaCoby Nordquist. He grew up in Torrington and graduated from Torrington High School in 1934. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, raced bicycles in the Hartford area and worked for Pratt & Whitney. Al married Mildred Mae Reed on June 4, 1938. He was employed at the Fuller Brush Company when he was called to the service of his country. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was a radio operator on the U.S.S. Wasatch, a communications ship in the Pacific theatre. After the war, Al and Mildred moved to East Greenbush, NY where he continued to work for Fuller Brush. They adopted their daughter, Nancy Ann, on March 29, 1948. They moved to Hartford in 1952 and to Ivoryton in 1955. Al worked for the Pratt Read Co. from then until his retirement as Chief Engineer in 1983. Al was a member of the Valley Shore Management Club and a life long member of the Odd Fellows. He and Mildred loved square dancing and ballroom dancing. Al was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of West Hartford. He also loved to listen to Fife and Drum Corps. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mildred; his half siblings Melvin Nordquist, Paul R. Nordquist, Frank A. Nordquist, Marion Nordquist Lukcso, Leo C. Nordquist Jr. (aka Charles L. Harrison), Charles JaCoby, Althea JaCoby Carrol and his brother Watson Nordquist. He is survived by his daughter Nancy Nordquist Liepelt and her husband Donald of Madison. He also leaves two grandsons, David Liepelt of Milan, MI, the Rev. Paul Liepelt and his wife Rev. Brandy Fix Liepelt of Kwarhi, Adamawa State, Nigeria, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 15 from 12 Noon-1 p.m. at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, West Hartford.
