Alexandra Demchenko Obituary

Alexandra (Sklonny) Demchenko, 94, of Hartford, widow of the late Nicholas Demchenko and Vasili Russakov, died Wednesday, (April 10, 2002) in West Hartford. She was born in Russia and had lived in Hartford since 1951. Prior to her retirement in 1973, Alexandra worked for Travelers Insurance Company for 20 years. She was a very active and generous supporter of St. Panteleimon Russian Orthodox Church and a former member of the church committee for 14 years. She is survived by two grandsons, Gregory J. Shaffer and his wife, Ella of Hartford, and Oleg Vechesloff and his wife, Nadia of New London; a son-in-law, Igor Vechesloff of Hartford; and three great grandchildren, Olga, Michael and Jonathan. She was predeceased by her daughter, Irina Veschesloff. The funeral will be Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. in St. Panteleimon Church, 19 Becket St., Hartford. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Visiting hours will be Friday, 6-7 p.m. at St. Panteleimon Church. A Panahida will be held at 7 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church. The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, Wethersfield has care of arrangements.
