I had the good fortune of meeting Andrew in the late autumn of 2022; actually, my wife had met Andrew first, alongside with his beloved daughter, Eleanor, while she and our daughter were running errands, and stopped for lunch.
Luckily, our daughters shared the same 1st grade teacher, and because my wife enjoyed his company, and our daughters became friendly, I soon found myself arranging almost weekly visits for the girls to have "play dates."
While our respective daughters played, I quickly got to enjoy Andrew´s company: I found Andrew a very devoted father, and a most gracious host-he made us feel very welcome in his home, and he was terrific company when visiting us at our home. I rapidly grew to look forward to seeing them as winter came; in fact, being in Andrew´s home when he was setting up and straightening up his Christmas tree was a particularly nice highlight that added to my enjoyment of the season.
Andrew seemed a very inquisitive and open-minded man who was always pursuing opportunities to learn about things ranging from sweat lodges and indigenous dance, to seeking out whatever theatrical performances he could to experience with Eleanor. He was openly friendly and amiable in the pick-up line at school, speaking with and exchanging pleasantries with familiar and new faces equally-I never heard Andrew utter a single unkind word about anyone.
In our talks (while our girls played dress-up and laughed), he seemed focused squarely on how he could maximize with Eleanor, and provide her with the best life that he could; I respected his affection, devotion, and patience he displayed in caring for Eleanor-everything seemed a teaching opportunity for Andrew to raise his daughter to be the beautiful little soul she is.
I truly cannot believe that he is gone. All sorts of expressions can be inserted (quite rightly) about how fleeting life really is. And it is especially so in a case like this where a young man like Andrew, so vital and caring, is all of a sudden gone. Though I knew Andrew a mere seven months´ time or so, I can truly say that I am better off for having met him. I join with all of you in Connecticut, New York, and Michigan who knew and loved Andrew best in wishing him an eternal, peaceful rest. You remain in our thoughts fondly, Andrew!
