Annette Krechevsky Obituary

Annette Lee (Krasner) Krechevsky, 88, formerly of West Hartford, CT, passed peacefully at Mulberry Gardens of Southington in Plantsville on Monday, November 4, 2019. Nan, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Seymour T. (Tim) Krechevsky. Born in Hartford, she was the eldest child of Max and Mitzi (Mankin) Krasner. She was a graduate of Weaver High School, where she met and began dating her future husband. She attended Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, graduating in 1951 as a registered nurse. Two years later, she married her high school sweetheart. The couple moved to Boston while Tim attended Harvard Law School and Nan went on to become head nurse at Cambridge City Hospital. After Tim graduated from Harvard Law in 1955, the couple moved back to Hartford, where Nan returned to working as an operating room nurse at Saint Francis Hospital. Together, Nan & Tim raised four children, and they have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Nan was a leader and used her skills to make a difference in the world. She was very active in and served as president for a time with the Hartford-area chapter of Women's American ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation through Training), which educates and empowers students worldwide. In 1990, Nan founded the first CT Epilepsy Foundation in Hartford, which created an annual Mud Volleyball tournament as a fundraiser; the popular event is still held every year. Nan also was a gifted seamstress and operated her own home business called "Nan's Place," where she designed, sewed, tailored and hand-painted designs on clothes for family, friends and neighbors. She continued to sew until just a few years ago. Nan also was a talented dancer, taking dance and tap lessons as a child with the dream of becoming a Radio City Rockette. She was granted a tryout at Radio City Music Hall and was turned down not because of her dancing skills, but because she wasn't tall enough. At age 60, she returned to her love of dance, taking tap dancing lessons and continuing to perform for many years. Nan & Tim also enjoyed playing tennis together and did so well into their retirement years. Nan was active at Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville, volunteering to sew Bingo bags for residents to hold their dimes for Bingo games. She also was runner-up in the facility's 2017 Miss Mulberry Gardens pageant. Nan leaves four children: Lauren Lang of Plantsville, CT; Marla Mella and her husband, David, of Port Saint Lucie, FL; David Krechevsky and his wife, Katherine, of Wallingford, CT, and CB Benway of Greencastle, PA. She is also survived by her sisters, Roni Berson Weiner of East Haddam, CT, and Debra Clymer and her husband, Ronald, of South Windsor, CT. In addition to her grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, she also leaves 12 loving nieces and nephews. The Krechevsky family would like to express its eternal gratitude to the Hospice staff at VITAS Healthcare, and to Mulberry Gardens, its nurses, aides and staff for their expertise, assistance and compassion. The family also is especially grateful to Visiting Angels, including Abby for her tender care of Nan at night; Allie, for her youthful exuberance and loving care on weekends, and Nan's personal aide and guardian angel, Nancy, for her love and dedication to ensuring that Nan spent her final months enjoying life in "Nantucky" and all of its opportunities to dance. Funeral services will be private. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St. in Cheshire, followed by the family observing Shiva from 4-8 p.m. at the home of Lauren Lang, 25 Arrowhead Lane, Plantsville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Annette Krechevsky's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington CT 06489, or to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Ave., Montgomery, AL 36104. Dear Debbie, Take comfort in the great accomplishments and wonderful memories of Annette while she was fortunate to have had you as her sister. Of course, I fondly recall your wonderful parents from whom you both inherited your kindness.
