Astrid Johansen Obituary



Astrid Harris Johansen, 81, of Avon passed away Monday June 26th, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Farmington on May 9, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Harris and Astrid (Benson) Harris. Astrid was a graduate of Farmington High School, class of 1954. She was a lifetime member of St. James Parish in Farmington where she served in several different capacities, most recently on the Altar Guild. She also coached several girls' sports teams at Avon High School over the years. Astrid was an avid golfer, reader, puzzler, and bird-watcher. She also enjoyed spending time with friends playing Mahjong and Rummikub each week. Astrid was predeceased by her husband David C. Johansen, also of Farmington, her brother Ronald (Jane) Harris, and sisters Patricia (Weston) Barnes, and Nancy (Burt) Wright. She is survived by her brother Joseph (Marie) Harris, sisters Joan (Robert) Rogers, Andrea Harris and Anna Harris. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses, Sandra and Christopher Doot of Millersville MD, Scott and Kim Johansen of Hinesburg Vermont, Jennifer and Jay Damato of Deep River, CT and Eric and Jane Johansen of Avon CT. She was the proud grandmother of Ryan (Lissa) Doot, Ashley Doot, Matthew (Ashley Grace) Doot, Gabrielle (Matthew) Clow, David Johansen, Derek (Maggie) Damato, Amanda Damato, Emma Kate Johansen and Eli Johansen, and great grandmother of Christopher and Annalynn Doot. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (June 30) from 4-7PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday (July, 1) at 11:00AM at St. James Parish, Mountain Rd. Farmington, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Parish 3 Mountain Rd, CT 06032 or JDRF 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, New York 10004.
