Aurore Nicksa Obituary

Aurore (Labbe) Nicksa, one of God's most beautiful creations, passed away on January 9, 2021. She died with her family by her side in the home she built with her husband 70 years ago. Born on June 5, 1924 in Waterville, ME to Hugh and Marie Labbe, Aurore lived in Hartford until 1936 when the family moved to a farm in Avon and then lived in Unionville all of her adult life. In 1944 she married Walter C. Nicksa who died in 1993. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor, Aurore was a caregiver to all. Her gracious, thoughtful way of life made everyone feel welcome and she showed by example how love and kindness speaks to the soul. Spending time with Aurore was a sure way to brighten your day, her support and kindness were "without claim". With that same spirit, she spent many years volunteering for Services for the Elderly as a Director, delivering Meals on Wheels and arranging for services for those who were in need in the Farmington/Unionville area. Aurore was a master homemaker and baker. We remember her delicious ginger cookies, cinnamon rolls, meat pies and the joyous family celebrations she hosted. She was an accomplished seamstress and also knitted sweaters, scarves, mittens and more for all the family and many friends. Above all she gave an endless supply of love to everyone. On any given day, in any season, she could be found working in her yard and left a legacy of dahlia tubers across generations. While she was constantly busy, Aurore was a devoted fan of the UConn Women's basketball team and always made time to watch and cheer for the Lady Huskies. Survived by children Walter C. Nicksa Jr (Kathy) of Barkhamsted, CT, Patricia Frasier of West Hartford, CT and Gary Nicksa (Kim) of Wellesley, MA, ten cherished grandchildren and their spouses/partners: Dr. Grace Aurore Nicksa (Harry) of CA, Gary (Kady) Nicksa of Burlington, CT, Ryanne (Justin) Bergler of Vancouver, Canada, Christopher (Sarah) Nicksa of SC, Colin Frasier (Ann) of HI, Doug (Lisette) Frasier of CT, Sarah (Dave) Baker of VA, Jeffrey Nicksa (Allie) of MA, Kim (Chris) Andersen of NY and Betsy (Jeremy) Autry of CT and eleven great-grandchildren: Noah Nicksa, Samuel Nicksa, Mackenzie, Emerson and Jackson Baker, Peter and Juliette Aurore Frasier, Delaney and Caleb Andersen and Bingham and Pierson Autry. She also leaves many caring nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. She was predeceased by her son James Nicksa and son in law James Frasier, her siblings Gerard, Leon and Roger Labbe, Irene Bergin and Jeanette Seitz-Malley and their spouses. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice team for their caring support and a very special thanks to Aurore's caregiver, Nathaline, whose tender loving care these last 21 months was simply priceless. Memorial donations may be made to Services for the Elderly of Farmington, 321 New Britain Avenue, Unionville, CT 06085 or to a charity of choice. Funeral and Burial services were private. The Ahern Funeral Home in Unionville was entrusted with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held later in 2021 when hopefully the world will be a safer place.

What a beautiful lady who gave so freely to others in her gentle, loving, caring way. Aura was a friend to this community always lending a helping hand to those in need. Our mutual ties with the great organization Services for the Elderly always connected us through the years. Aura's friendship brightened and enriched my life. My condolences to her dear family who she cherished so much.
