Auvita MCKENZIE Obituary

MCKENZIE, Auvita Pearl Auvita Pearl McKenzie, 81, the beloved wife of Joshua V. McKenzie for 47 years and loving mother of Vincent; died on Saturday, (January 1, 2011). She was born on March 16, 1929 in Camaguey, Cuba, and later emigrated to Jamaica. She was a devout member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church as well as a member of its Choir, the parish Committee and the Daughter's of the King, a founding member of Queen of Sheba Chapter No. 3 of the United Independent Order of Mechanics and a founding member of the Caribbean Ladies Cultural Club of Hartford. Auvita faced her illness with courage and a wonderful sense of humor, bringing a smile to those around her. In addition to her husband and son; she is survived by her sister, Doreth Wiggins; brother, Winston Sorrell; goddaughter, Sharon Butler; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Jacinta Davis and Carmen Watson. Calling hours will be held at Henry L. Fuqua Funeral Service, 94 Granby Street, Bloomfield, CT, between the hours of 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, (January 14). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, (January 15), at 9 a.m. at St. Monica's Episcopal Church, 3580 Main Street, Hartford, CT, followed by burial service at Mount St. Benedict.
