Barbara Salling Obituary

Barbara Joan Salling of New York, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2021. She was the beloved oldest child of Merle Salling of East Hampton, Connecticut. She is predeceased by her father, Paul O. Salling. Barbara leaves behind many wonderful friends as well as her brothers Todd and Paul Salling and (his partner) Donna Wollum, sisters Claire Salling, Donna Chalmers, Karen Dansereau and (her husband) Richard Dansereau, beloved nieces Danielle Botwick, Kristen Dansereau, Rebecca Chalmers and Katie Dansereau, all of Connecticut and beloved nephew, Paul Botwick of Florida. Additionally, her Aunt, Gail Kuzmak, Uncles, David Kuzmak, Bruce Shepard, and many cousins. Barbara was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the oldest of six children. She was a smart, kind and fiercely independent person who had the love and respect of all who knew her. She attended Adelphi University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She spent her professional career working, in various roles, as an advocate for those who were in need. She was an avid learner and was a Literacy Volunteer as well as a volunteer for Big Sisters. Despite the distance between her life in New York and the family home in Connecticut, and her own health concerns, she remained a dedicated daughter and always made the time to journey home for many holidays, happy events and family emergencies. Her presence as a guiding force will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St. Cromwell, CT on October 16th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers please consider making donations to the American Cancer Society, International Myeloma Foundation, or the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital to honor Barbara's memory. So very sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. I have known her since the 1980's. We became very good friends. She had such a good heart. She cared about everyone and will be missed by all who knew her. My deepest sympathy to her family who she loved so dearly.

Auntie Merle, Todd, Claire, Donna, Paul and Karen...I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember my cousin Barbara from our family gatherings when we were kids and when she took on organizing the Memorial Day picnics in later years. She was the one behind the camera taking the pictures during that time. She shared those pictures, often at the most perfect times, almost like she had a sixth sense about when people needed them the most. She shared memories and kept us up to speed with her letters and her cards. I know Barbara is in a better place but I will miss her always.
