Bernard Krutt Obituary

Bernard Krutt, age 97, died peacefully after a short illness on August 14th, 2023. Bernie was born May 28th, 1926, in Hartford, CT the son of Gertrude & Harry Krutt. Bernie grew up in Hartford and graduated from Weaver High School in 1944 and the University of Connecticut in 1950.

Bernie & his brother Alan survived the Hartford Circus fire of 1944, and he shipped out for the Navy (age 17 and 3/4) the very next day. In 1951, Bernie married the love of his life, Judith Weiss Krutt, and they moved to Manchester, CT. Bernie joined his father in their family business, Battery Ignition Co. Inc., in Hartford, which operated for 75 years. He was Master Auto Electric Rebuilder until age 82, when he retired. In addition to raising their three sons, he was very active in the Lions Club, a member and volunteer of Temple Beth Shalom B'nai Israel in Manchester for over 55 years, and worked on many food drives, bloodmobiles, and Men's club breakfasts. Bernie is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Gertrude Krutt of West Hartford and his wife, Judy and is survived by his brother, Alan Krutt of Delray, FL; his three sons, Samuel Krutt and wife Marilyn of Vernon, CT, Joel Krutt and wife Tobi of Columbia, MD, Daniel Krutt and wife Susan of Newington, CT; six grandchildren, Paula Tracy, Heidi Maynard, Leila Phillips, Hannah Dejarnette, Joshua Krutt, Alexander Krutt, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services with full military honors will be held Friday, August 18th at 10:30 am at the Temple Beth Sholom Memorial Park, 66 Autumn St., Manchester. A memorial period will be observed at the home of Bernard Krutt, 109 Elizabeth Dr., Manchester, through Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Temple Beth Sholom B'nai Israel, 400 East Middle Turnpike, Manc

It was my honor to grow up in Manchester with the Krutt family. Mr and Mrs Krutt were always nothing but kind to me and the memories of being on Elizabeth Avenue thru the growing years will stay with me forever. My how time flies
