Brian Barnes Obituary

Attorney Brian A. Barnes, 61 of Green Hill Road, Middlebury, died Monday, (August 1, 2002) at John Dempsey Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Quinn) Barnes. Attorney Barnes was born January 6, 1941 in Waterbury, son of the late Dr. Francis P. Barnes and Marguerite (Stoddard) Barnes. He graduated from St. Thomas Seminary, St. Bonaventure University, and the University of Maine Law School. Attorney Barnes worked with Attorney Howard Matzkin in Waterbury from 1967 to 1981, when he opened his own practice in Middlebury. During his legal career he distinguished himself in landmark cases before the Connecticut Supreme Court and as Middlebury Town Attorney. Attorney Barnes was a past President of the Junior Bar Association of Waterbury, a past President of the Waterbury Jaycees, and a member of both the Waterbury and Connecticut Bar Associations. Though an attorney by trade, his calling was the theater. In more than 30 years on stage. His favorite and most acclaimed roles included Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Charlemagne in Pippin and Uncle Ben in Death of a Salesman. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Brad Barnes and Todd Barnes, both of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, Francis Stoddard Barnes of Virginia Beach, VA, and Gregory Barnes of Middlebury; two sisters, Rosalind Barnes Truelove of Waterbury, Callista Barnes Carroll of Virginia Beach, VA; and a mother-in-law, Evelyn B. Quinn of Wethersfield. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Friday at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, Waterbury, for procession to St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury for a Mass at 10 a.m. Calling hours are TODAY, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to, UCHC Cardiology Research, University of Connecticut Health Center, Development Office, 263 Farmington Ave, Farmington, CT 06030.
