Carol Goldstein Obituary

Carol Janet Goldstein, age 65, of West Hartford died on January 31 at her home in West Hartford. Her death was a surprise to all of us (particularly Carol) since she had not yet clipped a discount coupon (or Groupon) from a local funeral home. Born in Mahopac, NY on June 27, 1949, Carol was the daughter of the late William and Frances Teicholz of Danbury, CT. She was a 30 year resident of West Hartford. Carol loved young children, both having them and teaching them, and her life reflected this love. She earned her B.S. degree in Child Development from the University of Connecticut in 1971, an M.S. degree in Elementary Education from ECSU in 1983, an M.S. degree in Human Relations and Communications from ECSU in 1985, and her certification in ESOL from CCSU. Despite wanting a daughter, Carol bore four sons and had to settle, at least temporarily, for a string of female dachshunds. She later was blessed with 4 grandchildren, three girls and a boy, and has been conscientiously spoiling them ever since to make up for lost time. While awaiting their arrival, Carol taught in the West Hartford Public Schools as an ESOL tutor for 20 years, affectionately called "Mrs. G." She loved giving her students stickers, pencils and erasers for each small accomplishment. Beyond her love for kids, Carol had several other passions. She loved to read, particularly while sitting on the beach in Maine; she loved various arts and crafts and was constantly making small items for her friends and family; and she loved to shop. Carol was the consummate coupon clipper and had discounts for just about everything. She was particularly fond of L.L. Bean clothing and purchased enough sale items from them that, upon hearing of her death, Bean's was forced to file for bankruptcy, along with BigY Supermarket and Ocean State Job Lot. Carol loved making new friends, and if you were a friend of Carol's, you were a friend for life. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many. Carol is survived by her husband of 30 years, Marc B. Goldstein; her son Michael and his wife April Colson of Littleton, MA; her son Mark and his wife Julia Colson of West Hartford; her son Adam of West Hartford; and her son Scott of Boone, NC. She was blessed with 4 beautiful grandchildren, Madeline, Andrew, Samantha and Anna. She is also survived by her sister Judy Bigelow of West Hartford and her brother Lee and his wife Mary Teicholz of Danbury. The funeral will be held at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 4 with private burial at the Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford. Memorial donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086-0921 or Gifts of Music, 28 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06107.

Carol, we had Anna's birthday party today. The first birthday you haven't been to, and we missed you so much. Madeline cried tonight wishing you had been there. I wish I had told you more how grateful we were to have had you in our lives. We miss everything about you...your emails, the LL bean bags waiting by the door when we get home, cards and little treats you would send for the girls, visits. You had such a kind and giving heart and I feel blessed to have had you as part of my family. With love always, April

Carol knew I was a crazy cat lady. So—what did she do? She created and bought me all kinds of cat stuff to indulge my addiction. Cups, saucers, plates, and dishes she added to my collection of live, material, as well as virtual kitties—this included food that looks like cats for people! These were her gifts to me. I never believed they would stop coming. Every holiday (whether I knew existed or not) I would get a beautiful e-card along with a snail mail greeting. Carol was very efficient at getting these greetings out not just on time but way, way before time. Unfortunately, this too will stop. Carol loved books and movies and would email me recommendations of her favorites, I never dreamed these would stop coming. Carol promised us one of her yummy bundt cakes for the next party. We will not taste this either. One our fondest memory is our delightful weekend in Vermont. Thank you again Carol for inviting us. I will cherish all the photos we both took. Carol was much too young to leave us and had so much to give especially to her adored grandkids. I will miss her amazing patience with children and remember to try to emulate her patience when people get to me. Shalom Carol. Rest in peace. We will miss you.

My deepest sympathy to you all. I was blessed to have known and worked with Carol at a summer program at Charter Oak. My daughter also knew her through Wolcott School. What a loving, caring and genuine lady. The love she had for her students and those around her was evident in all she did. She was bubbly, kind and had a warm beautiful smile. I am so thankful that I knew Carol. Heaven has added another angel. xoxo

I am so sorry for your loss - it's a huge one indeed. I worked with Carol at Lollipop Tree Nursery School many years ago & would see her from time to time over the years. Carol was a very special person who could always find the good in everyone. She was fun-loving, caring, kind and had such a wonderful, magical way with young children. She will be missed.

Marc and family, I am so so deeply sorry for your loss. May your faith, family and friends (and clearly your humor)get you all through this difficult time.

We can't say enough how much we will miss Carol. She was the best neighbor and was so good to our girls. Reese loved her "grandma" and enjoyed going over, coming home with chocolate milk and animal crackers. In the 4 years of being neighbors we have such nice memories. We are lucky to have known Carol.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We're sorry for your loss.

I did not know Carol, but I have known other Goldsteins. My Dad actually owned Goldsteins Deli for awhile. I read her obit to see if I did know her. What a lovely obit, she must have been quite a lady. Condolences to her family.

I met Carol through my friend, Arlene. She was so warm and friendly and even though I only knew her peripherally, she would send bake goods to me through Arlene and I would receive her homemade cards for holidays and birthday. We will all miss her good heart.
I am sorry for the unexpected loss to the family and the void that her passing will bring. Pam DelDonno
