WHELAN, Charles P.
Charles P. Whelan, 91, of Orange Park, FL, formerly of Manchester, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012. Charles was born in Lawrence, MA on February 6, 1921. Charles served in the US Navy during World War II, and then worked at Pratt and Whitney followed by Stanadyne. Charles was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary. They were married on February 7, 1942. Throughout his life, Charles was always fiercely devoted to his family. Charles was an avid bowler having won Manchester town championships. He also was an enthusiastic golfer, with a love for the game. Charles leaves behind a daughter, Maureen Taillon; a son, Charles E. Whelan; four grandchildren Michael Taillon and his wife Diane, Sheryl Boulineau and her husband Ramon, Ashley and Stephanie Whelan; and his great-grandchildren Charles, Lauren, Ritchie, Isabelle and Nicholas. He also leaves behind a brother, Walter Whelan; a sister, Rita Kopecki; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, granddaughter, and three siblings.
A funeral Mass for Charles and Mary will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Manchester. Burial will be at the Middletown Veteran's Cemetary on Monday, February 4 at 10 a.m.
