Daniel McSwiney Obituary

Daniel Gerard "Gee" McSwiney, 53 of Port St Lucie Florida and Newington, Connecticut passed away on January 5, 2017 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in West Palm Beach Fl but moved with his family to Newington, CT at a young age. He was a Newington HS graduate (1981) and graduated from Southern CT State University in 1985 with a degree in computer programming. While in high school he was a member of the swimming team and an accomplished diver. He worked as a computer programmer for many years before moving to California, and then to Port St Lucie. He was a kind, generous soul and free spirit, with an awesome smile who collected many friends all over the country during his travels. Unfortunately, in 2015 he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and true to form he took it in stride and spent his last year researching and battling it as only Daniel would. He fought it to the end, still convinced he would beat it. He passed away peacefully at St Lucie Medical Center with his family by his side, holding his hands and reassuring him how much he was loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He is survived by his loving mother, Mary Helen (Byrnes) McSwiney; his three sisters: Claire McSwiney, Andrea Madar (Greg), and Suzanne Klatt (David). He also leaves his beloved niece and nephews, who fondly referred to him as "Uncle Dirty": Sean, Stephen, and Andrew Madar; Kyle, Nick, and Leah Klatt. He also leaves many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his "loveable" father John P. McSwiney, who passed away on December 23, 2016. We know in our hearts he was greeted by Daddy, and his adored dogs, Nipper and Gryff. A memorial service will be held at a future date in Newington CT. Memorial contributions may be made to: Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (383 Main Ave 5th Floor Norwalk, CT 06851) or American Cancer Society.

I had the pleasure of work with Dany years back at the former Northeast Utilities (Eversource) and he left such a positive impact on me that for as long as I live I'll never forget him. He always had such a good heart and positive attitude. I think of him everyday still today on the work I do because of the legacy he left in my work life and my personal life. Rest in peace Danny as you deserve. Your smile will remain in my memories of you.

My sincere sympathy goes out to Daniel's family. He was a strong willed man who will be dearly missed. Too young, too soon . May he be free from pain and enjoy his beloved pups in heaven. Peace to all. Colleen NHS 81, SCSU 85.
