David Blanchette Obituary

David John Blanchette, 50

David John Blanchette, 50, of Dorrance Street, Attleboro died unexpectedly upon arrival to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro on Monday, November 9, 2009 after a sudden illness. He was the husband of Kelly A. (Hughes) Blanchette to whom he was married on May 8, 1982.

Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on July 26, 1959, he was a son of Nancy A. (Charron) Blanchette of Attleboro and the late Donald Armand Blanchette. He was raised and educated in South Attleboro and Attleboro and was a 1979 graduate of Attleboro High School.

He returned to Attleboro in 1999 after having resided in Pawtucket for the previous 12 years.

Mr. Blanchette was employed as a rolling mill operator for Texas Instruments, now Engineered Material Solutions, in Attleboro for more than 30 years.

He also worked part-time as a security officer at Gillette Stadium for the past three years.

Mr. Blanchette was a communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church in South Attleboro and also worshipped at New Covenant Christian Fellowship in Attleboro.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a man with a great sense of humor and was the “Mayor” of his neighborhood.

Mr. Blanchette was an avid outdoorsman having enjoyed the time spent boating, sailing, hunting, fishing and skiing.

Times spent working in the yard and gardening were among his favorite pastimes.

Devoted to his daughters, he volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America and was a dedicated supporter of the ALS Association – Rhode Island Chapter in honor of his father whom was afflicted with the disease.

While residing in Pawtucket, Mr. Blanchette was a softball coach with the Pawtucket Slaterettes.

In addition to his wife of 27 years and his mother, he leaves two daughters: Nicole M. Blanchette of Attleboro and Dianne K. Blanchette of Attleboro; a granddaughter: Calleigh Marie Vassar of Attleboro; two sisters: Barbara A. Duquette of Attleboro and Linda L. Caouette of Attleboro; a brother: Dennis D. Blanchette of Hope, Rhode Island and several extended family members and dear friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave at EMS. Pleasure is the right term - one of the nicest, most helpful people I know, and he had the proper outlook on life - always optimistic, not pessimistic. Quiet and unassuming, and it is obvious he enriched everyone's life that he touched. We are all going to miss you Dave, but we will long remember your smiling face and the positive impact you had.

So long buddy, until we meet again.

Dear Daddy
I can never forget all the things that you showed me. As i sit here sitting on the couch in your favorite spot, i think about all the memories that we shared. It is not hard for me to remember everything because everyday with you was another memory and a new lesson you taught me. I can never forget the day just me and you went out on the Hobi Cat sailboat you know the little one you got down at the cape just to play around with ... we were out on that all day long just going back and fourth and playing in the sun. There can't be a day sailing without our ham and cheese sandwiches on the beach. I will never forget after you threw the anchor and sat down i looked out into the water an said " hey dad ... that boat looks just like yours" he said " oh yeah huh... thats to funny" as he slowly turned his head...dropped his sandwich and ran like he never ran before... it sure was our boat.
All thoses late nights you and mom and nicole would stay up with me while you helped me with all my projects because you could draw so well. All thoses softball games you came to and all thoses field hockey games you went to even though you didn't understand one bit of it ... you would always say "why do they blow that whistle so much". I can honestly say i am going to miss all your jokes even though i use to say " dad... seriously.. your not funny...stop.." and you would laugh even harder. I am also going to miss when mom would yell at me for something stupid I did.. you would just sit there looking at me and repeating everything she said because nothing could top what she said and you knew that would get me even mader. I am going to miss your loving smile and seeing you always out in the yard but daddy you will always be in my heart and you will always be here for me when i need you and i know that... daddy thank you for being the best dad in the world.

I LOVE YOU DADDY <3

Daddy, I am not sure what life is going to be like without you, but I am going to try really hard and continue to live life the way you'd want me to and continue to make you proud. I know you will always be with us and you will always be looking after us, please continue to guide me the way you did when I would ask for advice, i'm still going to be asking you. I will tell calleigh everyday that you loved her, and I will never let her forget you, I know and she knows you loved her so much. I am so glad I have that video of when she was born in the hospital to show her someday. And I am still going to continue to teach her how to say PA, I know she is going to have your sense of humor. I am so glad we had those few minutes alone with calleigh out by the fire in the backyard last week, I will cherish that memory and all of the others forever. Today we are all going to need your help to get thru the day especially mom, so please help us. Everyone has been so helpful I know you are proud of all of them. We are going to be okay daddy, so dont worry. Daddy I will love you always and I will always be your little girl.

To the Blanchette Family,
I remember an incident when I was a sophomore at AHS and some seniors were picking on me because I had won a spot on the hockey team over another senior. Dave came to my rescue and I will never forget him for that gesture of kindness. I wanted to share a quote with you that I hope will ease your hearts during this difficult time:

Not by lamentations and mournful chants ought we to celebrate the funeral of a good man, but by hymns, for in ceasing to be numbered with mortals he enters upon the heritage of a diviner life.
