One of my favorite memories of Dominic who I had, many years ago, the good fortune to help me with my math in college occurred one day while sitting at his kitchen table. On this occasion after working out one of the more difficult problems he said to me, "Now turn to the back of the book and see if the book got the right answer".
I am sorry for your loss.

Mr. Castagna was one of my favorite teachers. He had a wry sense of humor and an uncanny ability to explain how to get answers to very difficult math problems. He made learning fun, and was a major influence in my decision to become a teacher. Thank you, Mr. Castagna.

Dominic was a true friend, a great department chair and mentor. I learned a lot about the teaching profession from working with him. I will remember and miss him for the rest of my life. To his family my deepest condolences. "A life well lived."

I loved Mr. Castagna. He was my 12th grade trigonometry teacher. I passed due to his help, patience, and kindness. He as a wonderful educator. He made math fun, believe it or not. He understood teenagers, and made a point to get to know each one of us. He is one reason I became a teacher. Rest in Peace Mr. Castagna. You are loved and will be missed!

Dominic Castagna was a long time, highly valued faculty leader at Bulkeley High School. He mentored untold numbers of students and teachers with skill and professionalism. He was also a good friend from the time that I joined the BHS family in 1965. He had a tremendous work ethic and cared deeply about education which was his life's work. He had a wide circle of friends who will miss his quirky sense of humor and passionate views on many subjects, his loyalty and gruff affection. He was truly one of a kind.
To Sarah, Diane, Mary Ellen and Carl, my deepest sympathy.
