Uncle Durward always had time to joke with or toss a football or baseball to a nephew or niece who might have been playing in the yard at the farm. How I looked forward to Sunday afternoons and our pickup football games, Uncle Durward had a knack for lighting a fire under the adults to, "play a little ball" and he never forgot how important it was to make sure the young ones got to handle the ball by floating a pass right into our hands. Uncle Durward was a gentleman, hard working and a farmer at heart. Rest in peace.
