Edward GETSKY Obituary

GETSKY, Edward (Eddie) Mac

Edward (Eddie) Mac Getsky passed away suddenly on Tuesday (February 12, 2013), with his loving wife and best friend Barbara J (B.J.) for 36 years, by his side. Eddie was the eldest son of Edward and Estella Gegetskas, born on June 8, 1937. Ed leaves his son Edward Gegesky, whom he loved very much; he leaves his brothers and their wives, Robert and Cookie Gegetskas of Granby, and Richard and Audrey Gegetskas of Windsor; he leaves many nieces and nephews from both Ed and B.J.'s family who always thought Uncle Eddie was the best; he leaves many brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law that were so important in his life; he also leaves his treasured pets, Everett and Hazel and the "girls." Ed proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in 1955 at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was so thankful for that opportunity. After leaving the service, Ed was owner/operator of Airport Service in Windsor Locks, a company that eventually he shared with his brothers, and which his nephews Bobby and Paul now carry on in the tradition as Bobby G's. He was a man with many friends and many talents. Ed and BJ enjoyed boating for many years, and met wonderful friends and made lasting memories in Mystic and Old Saybrook. Many of his dear friends passed on before him and it saddened him greatly. He often talked of someday sitting at The Skyline or The Take 5 or Mingles with them. He built many houses in his lifetime, including his fabulous farm in West Suffield. He was a gentleman farmer with an undying love for animals and believed in the ethical treatment of all creatures. Each home he built was better than the last. But his favorite home of all was in Pensacola. He wanted to be in Florida so much and Ed began each day saying, "I love Florida". He was truly happy there. Ed will be sadly missed forever by those who were lucky enough to know him.
There will be a Memorial Service in Windsor at a later date. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 1000 Hwy 29S, Cantonment, FL is in in charge of arrangements. You may express your condolences online at www.fcfhs.com.

My uncle Eddie was one of a kind and lucky enough to be married to my Auntie BJ for over 30 years. He always had a great story to tell, was in the middle of building something ... and would never EVER let me open my wallet.

I never thought Ed would run out of energy. I think he finally did. Take a break Eddie, you earned it!

You will be missed.
