Edward Steele Obituary

Edward R. Steele, 64, of Vernon and formerly of Manchester, son of Agnes (Ruppel) Vandavoir of Sarasota, FL, and the late Edward N. Steele, died Saturday, (June 8, 2002) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born December 12, 1937 in Hartford and had lived in the Manchester and Vernon area all his life. He was a member of the Washington Social Club and the Manchester B.P.O.E. Lodge of Elks #1893; and prior to his retirement, he had been employed as custodian with the Manchester Board of Education at Manchester High School. Besides his mother, he is survived by six children, Edward Steele of New Mexico, Catherine Kauffman of Pennsylvania, Dawn Steele of Uncasville, Loriann Steele-Snider of Bristol, Arlene Steele of Manchester, Darren Steele, also of Manchester; brother, Robert Steele and his wife Mary of California; sister, Barbara Jean (Steele) Drost and her husband David of East Hartford; a nephew, Richard O'Conner and his wife Shirley of Massachusetts; two nieces, Gracie Drost of Windsor Locks and Lisa O'Conner of Massachusetts; and several grandchildren; and other nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held in the Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. The Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester has care of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston St., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.
