Elizabeth Steves Obituary



Misty passed away in Glendale, AZ, on October 25, 2015. She was born Elizabeth "Betty" Hyjek on December 10, 1941, to Alice (Baran) and Stanley J. Hyjek in Rockville, CT. She attended Rockville High School and was graduated from the School of Home Economics at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. She married Roger Steves in 1961. She and Roger moved to AZ from CT 14 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Roger, her children- Michael Steves of Huntsville, Alabama, and Lisa Marie Steves of Brooklyn, New York. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Mulvaney and brother-in-law, Bill Mulvaney of Scottsdale, AZ. There are 5 surviving grandchildren - Alyssa, Lindsay, Ned, Ben and Paul. Misty was an avid fiction reader, gourmet cook, and loved to play bridge. She was a teacher of Home Economics, enjoyed a career in residential real estate, and was a member of the Sustainers of the Junior League of Phoenix. Misty was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Arrowhead HOA in Glendale. All are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday, November 2, 2015, at 1:00 pm at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 S. Main St., West Hartford, CT 06107. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford Healthcare Hospice, 34 Ledgebrook Drive, Mansfield Center, CT 06050. I was shocked and saddened to hear about Misty. I have many fond memories of her at UConn. She was such a warm and beautiful person. It's hard to believe it's been over 50 years. Val and I send our condolences.
