Enrico Fiano Obituary

FIANO, Enrico Michael "Ric" Enrico Michael "Ric" Fiano, 81 of Bolton, died Friday, (June 26, 2009) at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by many loved ones who stayed by his side through his struggles. Enrico was born in Hartford June 28, 1927, a son of the late Antonio Fiano and Elizabeth (Batagnani) Fiano-Chieffo of Bolton, the first generation of his Italian descendents to be born in the United States. His youth was spent on his parent's farm where he helped build the family business, "Bolton Tomatoes by A. Fiano and Sons". Enrico joined the US Army in 1948 with four of his brothers, all being sworn in at the same time. He earned the rank of sergeant while serving in Germany during the Korean War. His father opened a restaurant in 1953 as The Rainbow Club, and in 1959 the name was changed to Fiano's Restaurant. He worked alongside his father, mother, and six brothers in creating a fine dining and banquet establishment that catered to many events and weddings until closing in 1987. Enrico, with the assistance of his beloved wife Joan, was involved in building quality custom homes for most of his adult life. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Joan C. (Hoisington) Fiano. With his mother he is survived by his eldest son Michael Fiano and his wife Cynthia of Bolton and their children, Vincent, Stephanie and Katelyn, his eldest daughter Michele Dumaine and her husband Peter of Columbia and their sons, Jonathan and Roger, his son Enrico "Ric" Fiano and his wife Kristen of Savannah, GA, and his daughter Karen Fiano of Bolton and her sons, Michael and Daniel; six brothers, Rocco, Lawrence, Francis, Anthony, and Paul, all of Bolton, and Valentino of South Daytona Beach, FL; his sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and their children. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. in the Bolton Congregational Church, 228 Bolton Center Road, Bolton, with a reception to follow at the church hall (Chandler Hall). There are no calling hours. Burial with Military Honors will follow the reception at 1 p.m. in the Bolton Center Cemetery, Hebron Road, Bolton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bolton Congregational Church Memorial Fund. The Watkins Funeral Home in Manchester has care of arrangements.

Not sure what to say?

We would like to extend our belated sympathies to the entire Fiano family. My husband and I lived next door to Ric for 8 years until 3 years ago, when we moved out of state.

Our memories are similar to what other neighbors have already shared...Ric was a great man and neighbor. He was so welcoming and warm when we moved to the neighborhood. An early memory is of Ric bringing over buckets of blueberries. They were a real treat. Then I (Cathy) decided I wanted to start a garden...I had so many questions..soil this, fertilizer that...he finally said to me...just put it in the ground...it will grow!!! He was so helpful sharing all his gardening knowledge and tips. I think he got tired of watching me obsess over weeds...he gave me this great tool for weeding. I still use it and think of him everytime I do.

There was also the time I had a brand new kitty and was transitioning her to her new home. She escaped. Ric was the calm one who found her frightened under a bush in his yard.

Ric loved sharing stories of the old days...we loved hearing them...so much history. He was such an inspiration...would pass him often walking 7 miles on the mountain.

Ric, you are a very special person, touched so many, including both of us, and we will never forget you!

After just talking with you Val, I looked up on line the notice of your brother's passing. I read the Htfd news daily, but somehow missed this. Sorry for your loss.

As a neighbor of Ric's for nearly 30 years, he became as much a part of the landscape as any oak tree or view across the fields. Always a wave and a smile; sometimes a chat. A solid citizen in a wonderful nieghborhood.

Ric was the best, The Rainbow club and Fianos were best memories I have of that time. Ric was honest to the core and could be counted on to set things straight. I will miss the man.

We have lived on Birch Mountain Road for more than 19 years. During that time whenever "Ric" was either going to or coming from a visit to his mother's house there was always a friendly hello and or a conversation.
We will miss those encounters. Our deepest sympathy is extended to all his family.

My husband I moved in across the street from Ric about a year and half ago. Within days of our arrival, Ric was welcoming us to the neighborhood. He would stop over and tell us stories about how he and his family grew tomatoes where our house now stands. He changed his mailbox post to hold two mailboxes when ours was knocked over by the snow plow. Ric was a kind and generous man, and we will miss him dearly. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.
To Ric's family, please accept our deepest sympathies. We are so sorry for your loss.

Dear Mike and Family,
I did not have the pleasure of ever meeting your dad but I wanted to let you know that I am thinking of your family and wish you peace!

Ric was a great neighbor and friend.
He was also a wonderful mentor, he showed me how to take care of our garden(which is now full of his raspberry bushes) and taught me how to cut and drop trees in my yard. He was a very handy and smart man and I will truly miss him. Up until 2 weeks ago he was splitting wood, mowing his lawn and driving his ford tractor. He definitely lived his life to the fullest! -- To Ric's family and friends, I am sorry for your loss, please accept my deepest sympathies.
Ric may you rest-in-peace, my family will never forget you. Jeff Giblisco

My family and I only had the pleasure of knowing Ric for the last two years we lived next door to him. In that short time we grew to love his warm and gracious smile, his kind heart and no non-sense personality. We will always hold dear the memories of Ric helping my husband cut down huge trees in our yard or taking out his old Ford tractor to clear large garden plots for me this past March. I will miss having him there to help me grow my first garden and will always smile when I look at my new raspberry bushes with fond memories of the man who gave them to me. Forever know, as my kids call them, Ric's Raspberries.
We are lucky to have know such a wonderful man.
