Frank McDonald Obituary

Frank Loughner McDonald, 86, of Simsbury, CT passed away on July 4th. He was born on July 19, 1936, in Greensburg, PA. He was the third of five children of David and Margaret McDonald. Frank is mourned by Marylee, nee Krill, his wife of more than 62 years, their three children: Mark and his wife Carolyn of St. Charles, IL, Mikel and his wife Lauren of Nashville, TN, and Megan and her husband Chris of Simsbury, CT, five grandchildren Brian, Sarah, Matt, Katie and Matt and a great granddaughter Samantha.

Frank was a pioneer in modern labor relations, being one of the first executives hired to focus on labor relations in the grocery store industry. In that capacity he was known as a principled and fair negotiator. He began this career at Fisher Foods in Cleveland Ohio, then became co-owner of First National Stores (Finast). He served on the executive boards of several union pension funds. After his retirement in 1991, Frank received his law degree and was a court appointed child guardian ad litem. He served in the U.S. Airforce in the 1950's in intelligence, as a spy if you ask his grandchildren. He was a graduate of St. Vincent College - B.A., Case Western Reserve University, MBA and the Western New England School of Law, J.D.

Frank was devoted to his faith, his spouse, and his children. You had to listen to Frank as his mind and sense of humor were quick and quiet. While he was never the one to be out in front of a conversation, his family and friends always knew he stood behind them. He had an ability to see things objectively both in business and in his personal relationships. Telling it like he saw it, made him a great coach and supporter for his family. He loved cheering on his children and grandchildren in any of their endeavors, as well as detective novels, classic television shows and the Pittsburgh Steelers – not necessarily in that order. Mass and burial took place on Saturday, July 8th.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you contribute to a charity of your choice, unless you have a great quarterback for the Steelers.
