Fred Sauer Obituary

Fred J. Sauer, 77, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Mary (L'Heureux) Sauer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with his wife by his side. He was born in Bolton on September 25, 1946; a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Krause) Sauer. After high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy serving two tours during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969 and shortly after married the love of his life, Mary, on March 26, 1971. In 1975, they moved to South Windsor, and he worked for Pratt and Whitney for forty years as a Maintenance Engineer. Fred was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially snowmobiling with his sons in the winter, many family trips, school events, and sporting events, with his grandsons.

Fred is survived by his wife, Mary L. Sauer; two sons, Robert Sauer and his wife, Lillian of Tolland and Daniel Sauer and his wife Margaret of East Hartland; two cherished grandsons, Benjamin and Matthew Sauer both of East Hartland. He also leaves two brothers, William Sauer and his wife Nancy of Bolton and Donald Sauer and his wife Patricia of South Windsor, four sisters, Rosemarie Pavlik of Burlington, Wilma Knight of Florida, Jeannie Martin and her husband Tim of East Hartford, and Mary Falco and her husband Larry of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Lorri Sauer of Coventry, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Fred was predeceased by three brothers, Arnold, Richard, and Harold Sauer and a sister, Doris Stephenson.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor, CT. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Fred's memory may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Road, Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910, https://vva.org/donate/. I'm so sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I worked a few years with Fred back in the 90's in the powerhouse at Pratt. Fred was always pleasant to me. Always offering his knowledge or a helping hand. My deepest condolences to his family.

So sorry to see that Fred has passed. We met at the powerhouse 1995 after a wave of layoffs resulted in my reassignment. Fred taught me a ton and we had some really good laughs. Deepest condolences on the passing of a good man.
