George J. Perchal

1928 - 2023

George J. Perchal, 95, of Old Lyme passed peacefully in his home on April 3, 2023. George was born on March 10, 1928 in the lower East side of Manhattan NYC, the son of Rudolph Perchal and Helen (Trvdy) Perchal. He was predeceased by his parents, older sister Edith, and twin brother Rudy. He and his brother were proud World War II Navy veterans having served from 1945-1947. Following the war, they both graduated from New York University in 1952, George with a degree in mechanical engineering. Shortly after graduating he began work at Combustion Engineering. In 1959, he embarked on a career at Electric Boat in Groton, CT where for the next 33 years he worked on ballistic missile submarines. George was a charter member of the Mountain Laurel Ski Club through which he would meet his future wife, Frances Birmingham. They were married in 1968, moved to Old Lyme in 1970, and were active members of Christ the King Church where they both sang for several years in the church choir. In his younger days, George was an avid skier, and had lifelong love of golf, fishing, puttering in the garden, dancing foxtrots and was beloved for his mischievous sense of humor. He spent many a summer day with his family in South Yarmouth, Cape Cod MA. He is survived by his wife Frances, son Brian and daughter-in-law Rebecca, niece Laura Payne and her two sons of Lewisburg, PA, and extended family in Connecticut and Maryland.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 14 from 5-7pm at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 15, at 11am at Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Road, Old Lyme. Burial with military honors will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk, CT.
